Wolf Runners Race to Place

WOU's men are second at the Linfield George Ota Invite, women finish third.

INDEPENDENCE, Ore.--Western Oregon's men raced to a second place finish and the Wolves women were third at the Linfield George Ota Invitational at the Oak Knoll Golf Course.

Matthew Resnik led the men with a fourth-place crossing and Kyla Potratz paced the women in fifth place. There were 32 teams competing on the men's side and 22 in the women's race.

The only team ahead of the Wolves' men was the University of Portland with 48 points, compared to WOU's 72. The Wolves were a very comfortable distance ahead of third-place George Tox (156 points). They finished in front of four Division I teams.

Resnik led the way with a time of 23:29 on the 8K course, and WOU had four runners in the top 15, with a 45 second gap between the group. After Resnik was Remedan Seman in 12th (24:06), Logan Parker in 13th (24:11) and Ethan Bothwell in 15th (24:12).

Jack Gladfetter of Corban was the race winner in 23:26.

In three of their four races this fall, the Wolves have finished in first or second place.

The women's team race was super tight. The Wolves were third with 98 team points, very close behind winner Eastern Washington (88) and Carleton (Minn.) with 91. Behind WOU in fourth was George Fox with 107.

Potratz clocked a time of 21:20 on the 6K course for a fifth place standing (Alauna Carstens of Evergreen State was the winner in 20:38). The top five Wolves were within a minute of each other, with Nettle Grey crossing in 24th (21:51), Ella Cardwell in 37th (22:10), Jazmine Liebl in 43rd (22:17) and Ali Heinly in 46th (22:19).

"Fantastic day for both groups, super proud of how everyone raced with confidence and put themselves in good position early in the race today," said head coach Zachary Holloway. "While cross country times aren't always super relevant with varying courses, Rez (Resnik) ran our programs first ever 24 minute 8k day today and the Men had a top 5 average 6 seconds off the old program best. Logan Parker had a big time PR today running #2 for the Men on the day and a 30 second PR.

"The Women had a massive group breakthrough today all around. Big time race for Adele Beckstead pushing Kyla to the end for both top 10 performances in a stacked field. 11 Women under 23 minutes for 6k today! Three weeks to conference at home and we are filling very good about where we are at going in."

That was Western Oregon's final scheduled tune-up before the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships on November 7 on their own Ash Creek Course.
