Olson hits WOU-record 10 3s as shorthanded Wolves pick up road win at WWU

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Western Oregon men's basketball team rode a record-breaking night from Braydon Olson to a 74-62 road win over Western Washington on Thursday at Carver Gym.

Olson poured in 32 points on 11-of-21 shooting and hit a school-record 10 three-pointers (10-of-16) as WOU (9-13, 4-9 GNAC) overcame a short-handed rotation to earn the conference victory. The Wolves were down to just seven available players due to illness, including the absence of GNAC second-leading scorer Jaydin Penigar.

Western Oregon and Western Washington (11-14, 5-9 GNAC) were tied 32-32 at halftime before Olson's shooting stretch created separation in the second half. He opened the final 20 minutes with a transition three at the 19:19 mark to give WOU a 35-32 lead, then connected again at 17:01 and 15:19 as the Wolves regained control during a back-and-forth stretch. Another three at 13:29 pushed Western Oregon in front 46-43 , and his 10th of the night — with 1:01 remaining — extended the lead to 69-60 and effectively sealed the win.

Olson surpassed the previous school record of nine 3-pointers in a game, set by Dalven Brushier in 2020 and matched by Cameron Cranston in 2022. He became the seventh player in GNAC history to hit 10 or more 3-pointers in a game — two shy of the conference record of 12 — and the ninth NCAA Division II player this season to reach double figures from beyond the arc (Division II season high: 11).

Despite the limited depth, Western Oregon controlled the glass, outrebounding the Vikings 43-35. Brady Grier added 15 points and 10 rebounds, including 7-of-8 at the free-throw line, while Graham Eikenberry provided 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting. The Wolves shot 40 percent from three (10-of-25) and 82.4 percent from the free-throw line (14-of-17).

The Wolves continue GNAC play Saturday at Simon Fraser.
