CHICO, Calif. — The Western Oregon baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader Friday at Nettleton Stadium, falling 10-6 and 10-1 to Chico State.
Game 1 – Chico State 10, Western Oregon 6
Western Oregon and Chico State traded momentum early before the Wildcats pulled away late.
The Wolves opened the day with a 3-0 lead through the top of the fifth before 10 straight runs propelled Chico State to the win. Zane Garvey went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for WOU. Alex Angevine collected three hits, while Chris Arce and Benny Nazario each drove in a run.
Ayden Holker started on the mound and worked 5.0 innings, allowing five hits and three runs (two earned) with two strikeouts and one walk. Michael Fitzgerald (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing two runs. Devin Bettencourt and Ben Edwards also saw time in relief.
Game 2 – Chico State 10, Western Oregon 1
In the nightcap, Western Oregon (2-4) was limited to one run on eight hits as Chico State (4-5) broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning.
Alex Harden led the Wolves offensively, going 3-for-3 and scoring the lone run. Garvey and Angevine each added two hits.
Shane Bailey (0-2) took the loss, throwing 3.1 innings and allowing six hits and six runs with three strikeouts and three walks.
The Wolves close out the series Saturday at Chico State with a doubleheader starting at noon.
