MONMOUTH, Ore. — The Western Oregon women's basketball team closed out Senior Day with a 68-58 win over Northwest Nazarene on Saturday afternoon at the Wolves Athletic Center, keeping its postseason hopes firmly intact.
With the victory, WOU improved to 13-11 overall and 8-8 in GNAC play, remaining tied for fifth with MSU Billings and one game ahead of Alaska Anchorage for the sixth and final GNAC Tournament spot with two games remaining.
On Saturday, Northwest Nazarene jumped out to an early lead, taking a 21-13 advantage after the first quarter, but the Wolves responded with a balanced second period to cut the deficit to four at halftime.
The turning point came in the third quarter.
Western Oregon shot 7-of-11 from the field and a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc in the period to flip the game. Kylani Rookstool fueled the surge, knocking down multiple 3-pointers as the Wolves outscored the Nighthawks 17-7 to take a 49-43 lead into the fourth.
Rookstool finished with a game-high 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three-point range, while adding seven rebounds. Danyell Booker provided a strong presence inside with 13 points and six rebounds off the bench, and Natalie Brown added eight points and six boards.
Western Oregon shot 50 percent from the field for the game (27-of-54) and connected on 6-of-13 from beyond the arc while holding Northwest Nazarene to 32.4 percent shooting overall and just 18.2 percent from three-point range.
The Wolves close the regular season on the road, traveling to Alaska Anchorage on Thursday before facing Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday.
