TRACY, Calif. — The Western Oregon softball team dropped both games Saturday at the NorCal Crossover, falling 7-0 to No. 1 Cal State San Marcos before an 11-4 setback to Cal State Monterey Bay at the Tracy Sports Complex.
Game 1: No. 1 Cal State San Marcos 7, Western Oregon 0
The Wolves were held scoreless despite collecting six hits against the top-ranked Cougars.
Lexi Baumgartner led WOU at the plate, going 3 for 3. Madelynne Hommel and Brooklyn Schneidt each added a hit as Western Oregon threatened early but was unable to break through.
Cal State San Marcos (18-1) built a five-run cushion through two innings and added two runs in the seventh to seal the decision.
Alyssa Fullmer (1-1) took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) over one inning. Penny-Lew Barnett provided six innings of relief, scattering six hits and allowing three runs (none earned) with two strikeouts and two walks.
Game 2: Cal State Monterey Bay 11, Western Oregon 4
Western Oregon jumped out quickly in the nightcap, scoring four runs in the first inning.
Sydney Conklin drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, Charliann Renner delivered a two-run double and later scored on an error as the Wolves grabbed a 4-0 lead.
Monterey Bay (14-4) answered with eight runs in the bottom of the first and never relinquished control.
Braeli Martin (2-3) was charged with the loss, allowing eight runs (three earned) over two-thirds of an inning. Kennedy Abbas worked 5 1/3 innings in relief, giving up three runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
Western Oregon closes out the NorCal Crossover on Sunday against Stanislaus State at 11:30 a.m.
