Baumgartner homers twice, Martin tosses shutout in WOU win over Regis

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. — The Western Oregon softball team rolled to an 8–0 victory over Regis on Sunday morning at the D2 West Collegiate Classic.

After a scoreless opening half-inning, the Wolves struck quickly in the bottom of the first, when Lexi Baumgartner launched a two-run home run to center to put Western Oregon in front for good. WOU (4-6) continued to apply pressure throughout, scoring in four different innings and ending the game after five behind a dominant pitching performance.

Baumgartner powered the offense, going 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI. Lexi Mauer was 1-for-2 with an RBI, a walk and a stolen base, while Madelynne Hommel scored twice and reached base three times. Haley Homan added a hit, a walk and a stolen base as part of an eight-hit, eight-walk attack.

In the circle, Braeli Martin earned the win for the Wolves, tossing a complete-game shutout. Martin allowed three hits, walked one, struck out four, and did not allow a run over five innings of work.

Regis (0-5) was limited to three singles and did not advance a runner past second base against Martin's steady command.

Baumgartner (.375 AVG, 2 HR, 3B, 2B, 9 RBI, 6 R) and Hommel (.500 AVG, RBI, 2B, 4 R) were named to teh D2 West Collegiate Classic All-Tournament Team.

The Wolves are off until Feb. 21 when they play their home opener against Bushnell.
