BURNABY, B.C. --- The Western Oregon softball team dropped a pair of one run contests 4-3 and 5-4 Saturday against Simon Fraser on the road.
In game one, WOU (21-18 overall, 7-5 GNAC) fell behind 3-0 in the first inning and trailed 4-1 going into the sixth before a Lex Baumgartner two-run single cut the Red Leafs' (14-24, 12-4) lead to one. But it's as close as the Wolves would get.
Reghann Fairbairn led WOU at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double.
Kennedy Abbas picked up teh loss, going five innings and giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits with a walk.
In game two, the Wolves again fell behind early - trailing 4-0 after two. A two-run
Lauren Mauer homer in the third cut the SFU lead in half and another Mauer two-run homer in the seventh got WOU within one at 5-4, but again it's as close as the Wolves would get.
Penny-Lew Barnett was solid in relief, giving up just a run on two hits with a strikeout in four innings of work.
WOU returns to action Saturday when it hosts Saint Martin's.
