MONMOUTH, Ore. --- Saint Martin's handed Western Oregon a doubleheader sweep Saturday at WOU Softball Field, winning game one 8-3 and game two 5-2.
Game 1 - Saint Martin's 8, Western Oregon 3
The Saints broke the game open with a three-run third inning to take a 5-0 lead before Western Oregon answered with two runs in the bottom half - a Lauren Mauer RBI single and a wild pitch that brought home a second run to make it 5-2.
Saint Martin's pushed it to 8-3 with a three-run sixth, too much for the Wolves to overcome despite a solo home run from Reghann Fairbairn in the fifth - her first of the season.
Madelynne Hommel and Mauer each finished with two hits. Fairbairn went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Game 2 - Saint Martin's 5, Western Oregon 2
Western Oregon grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first on a Brooklyn Schneidt RBI single, but Saint Martin's took control with a two-run fifth and added single runs in the sixth and seventh to pull away.
Fairbairn provided the offensive highlight again, launching a solo shot to center in the sixth to cut the deficit to 3-2, but the Saints answered with a two-run homer in the seventh to close it out.
Western Oregon and the Saints return to action noon Sunday with a doubleheader to close out the series in Monmouth.
