MONMOUTH, Ore. --- A two-run eighth inning lifted Montana State Billings past Western Oregon 5-3 Thursday at WOU Baseball Field.
With the game tied at three, the Yellowjackets (who were the home team with this being a make-up game for a canceled game in Billings earlier this year)Â loaded the bases and scored twice - on a hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch - to take a lead the Wolves couldn't answer in the ninth.
Western Oregon had taken a 3-2 advantage in the seventh on two unearned runs, capped by a Jayger Baldwin RBI single up the middle. But Montana State Billings tied it later that inning before pulling away in the eighth.
Baldwin led the offense going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Collin Irwin added two hits.
Jake Farr threw five solid innings, allowing one earned run, before the bullpen surrendered four in relief.Â
WOU and MSUB continue their series with a doubleheader 1 p.m. Friday in Monmouth.
