Wild first inning in game one, Larrance gem in game two lead WOU to Friday doubleheader sweep over MSUB

MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon baseball team swept a home doubleheader from Montana State Billings on Friday at WOU Baseball Field, winning the opener 10-7 before Logan Larrance threw a seven-inning shutout to close out a 5-0 game two victory.

Game 1 - Western Oregon 10, Montana State Billings 7

The Wolves sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning and built a lead they wouldn't give back, scoring nine runs before the second out was recorded to set the tone for the afternoon.

Walks, hit batters, and a throwing error kept the inning alive long enough for Robby Shepherd to deliver a two-run single through the middle, capping the rally. Shepherd finished with three RBI on the day while Collin Irwin added an RBI single during the first-inning burst.

Ayden Holker got the start and went seven innings, striking out seven and allowing four runs to earn his fourth win of the season. Zane Garvey closed it out with a scoreless ninth for his second save, after scoring twice and reaching base twice himself earlier in the game.

Game 2 - Western Oregon 5, Montana State Billings 0

Larrance was in control from the first pitch, holding MSUB to four hits over seven innings while walking two and striking out five. He threw just 99 pitches and improved to 3-2 on the year.

The Wolves broke through in the fourth, stringing together four hits and two walks to push five runs across. Shepherd got things going with an RBI single to center, Gunnar Shiotani followed with an RBI single to right, and Benny Nazario capped the rally with a two-run single. Shiotani finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

WOU and MSUB close out the series with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. with the senior day ceremony starting at 12:30 p.m.
