MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon track and field program had four athletes qualify for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships when the participants were released Tuesday.
For the Wolves men, Jake Behrman (shot put),
Ray Gerrard (discus) and
Brennen Murphy (400) qualified while
Izzy Boyd (shot put) will represent the WOU women's team.
The championships take place May 21-23 in Emporia, Kansas.
Murphy sits at No. 10 in the 400 with a school-record time of 46.11 seconds. The 400 prelims are set for 3:40 p.m. (PT) on May 21.
Gerrard is at No. 15 in the discus with a WOU-record distance of 177 feet, 9 inches (54.19 meters). Gerrard will compete 11:30 a.m. (PT) on May 22.
Behrman made the championships ranked No. 21 in the shot put with a distance of 57-2.25 (17.43 meters). He'll compete at 1:45 p.m. (PT) on May 23.
Boyd with a huge PR on Saturday at the Oregon Twilight is at No. 14 in the shot put with a distance of 48-6.25 (14.79 meters) - second in school history. She'll compete at 10:30 a.m. (PT) on May 23.Â
Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching a provisional standard established for each event. For each individual event contested, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted, and for the heptathlon and decathlon the top 16 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition.
