FRESNO, Calif. --- The Western Oregon volleyball team fell to Stanislaus State 3-1 (25-12, 23-25, 25-17, 25-19) on Thursday at the Sunbird Classic in the Wolves' season opener at the Special Events Center.
WOU after dropping the first game bounced back to take a tight game two, using back-to-back kills from
Payton Davis and
Finley Buman to break a 22-22 tie before eventually getting a
Malena Mathis kill to take the set 25-23.
However, the Wolves dropped the next two games and fell to the Warriors.
Davis led WOU with 15 kills to go along with 11 digs,
Kate Markley had 14 kills and 10 digs while Mathis finished with nine kills. Buman added three blocks.
Samantha Darby led the team with 30 assists while
Madi Noel had a team-high 17 digs.
The Wolves continue action at the event Friday with matches against Menlo College (2 p.m.) and host No. 11 Fresno Pacific (6 p.m.).
