MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon volleyball team opened GNAC play with 3-2 (23-25, 25-17, 25-15, 20-25, 15-12) victory over Saint Martin's on Saturday at the Wolves Athletic Center.
The Wolves (5-4 overall, 1-0 GNAC) after dropping the first game won the next two before falling in game four to force a fifth set with the Saints (4-5, 0-1).
WOU actually fell behind 6-2 in the deciding set before going on a 7-0 run that included three Katelyn Markley kills and a pair of
Kealani Rosa aces to make it 9-6 WOU.
The Wolves held a 12-11 advantage before a
Payton Davis kill, an SMU attack error and service error finished the game and match.
Markley led WOU with 19 kills to go along with 18 digs.
Payton Davis and
Malena Mathis each added 15 kills for the Wolves. Rosa had a team-high 28 assist along with three aces and 13 digs while
Samantha Darby had 27 assists.
Kate Klobas finished with eight blocks (including three solo).
The wolves hit the road next week to continue GNAC play at Seattle Pacific on Thursday.
