NAMPA, Idaho--Western Oregon and Northwest Nazarene battled to a scoreless draw on Saturday afternoon at the NNU Soccer and LAX Field in Nampa.

The Wolves move to 1-1-2 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play and they are now 2-3-3 overall. The Red Hawks now list at 1-2-1 in league action and they are 1-5-2 on the year.

Both defenses were unpenetrable throughout the afternoon. The Red Hawks had more opportunities in the first half with five shots to WOU's one, but only one of those NNU shots was on goal. In the second half, it evened out a bit with five shots each, but nonetheless neither team could get past the other's tough defense.

Western Oregon had a couple of good opportunities late with shots that just missed high in the 86th and 89th minutes. 

The final stat column showed NNU with 10 shots to WOU's six, with each squad showing two shots on goal. Both teams had three corner kicks.

WOU's Ayanah Soon had two saves during her clean sheet, the second time this season that she has not allowed a score.

"Today was a good team effort to fight for a road point," said Wolves head coach Nate Ulness. "It's hard to play away from home and especially the second game on the weekend. Coming out with four points gives us great confidence going into this week of matches and shows us where we need to improve to keep pushing the needle forward. We are proud of this group and their response to play and continue to get better together as a team." 

Western Oregon will now return home for a pair of matches this week against Western Washington on Thursday (Oct. 1) at 2 pm and Simon Fraser on Saturday.at 10 am.
