ASHLAND, Ore. --- The No. 17/14 Western Oregon football team broke a school record for yards in a game in a 65-35 victory over Southern Oregon on Saturday at Raider Stadium.
The Wolves (2-0) racked up 704 yards of offense - breaking the school record of 696 set in 2012 against Utah Tech. The Wolves' 453 rushing yards on the day is the fourth most in WOU history and the most since 1977 (when WOU rushed for a school-record 500 yards against Western Washington). The six rushing touchdowns is the second most in school history and the most since 1997.
It also broke the record for most points by an opponent at Raider Stadium and is the most points given up at home by SOU since 1952.Â
WOU set the tone from the get go as
Tony McAdoo took the Wolves' second play from scrimmage and ran it for an 81-yard score to make it 7-0. Just 16 minutes into the game after McAdoo took a ball 50 yards for a touchdown, the Wolves led 35-7 and never looked back.
Sixteen players had a carry on the day for WOU with McAdoo leading the Wolves with 131 yards on just two carries - both touchdowns.
Jermaine Land rushed for 85 yards on four carries,
Jayshon Limar had 80 yards rushing on four carries - including an impressive 57-yard touchdown run where he broke several tackles to break free for a score and quarterback
Jordan McCarty had 54 yards rushing and a touchdown to go along with throwing for 214 yards and two more scores, going 10-for-13 through the air.
Jaylen Fite had two catches for a team-high 77 yards to lead the Wolves.
LJ Imo had a big day on defense for WOU with five tackles, including two sacks and an interception.
Daniel Cooper also had five tackles and two sacks while
Elijah Pula had a team-best 11 tackles and
Nijawn Sterling added six.
The Wolves don't play next week as they gear up for their Lone Star Conference opener at No. 6 Central Washington.
