MSUB Postgame Quotes: 2/20/14

On the team’s performance…
“That was one of the best games we’ve played all year and against the number 25 in the nation. We took care of the ball, and we only had 12 turnovers against a really good team. We actually scored two more baskets than they did, so again, it comes down to free throws. They shot 10 more free throws. I thought we did a good job in our zone. We did give up some threes, but we did a really good job of fixing it on the next play. They’re a balanced attack; anyone can score for them. It’s a big defensive challenge, but I thought we did a good job of staying composed and staying focused for the entire game.”

On Montana State Billings’ three-pointers…
“[We were] not communicating on the top of the zone and then the bottom’s not getting out, so one person ends up guarding two and then we’re chasing. A couple of times, we’re running into screens where we need to get under and sprint to the other side. Overall, what a great performance. We were pretty balanced. Dana [Goularte] had a great game. Melissa [Fowler] was playing with confidence, and Chantel [Divilbiss] was knocking out some shots. Like I said, we were taking care of the ball. That was it right there. We actually got 14 more shots than they did which we need to get when they’re scoring threes to our twos. It was a five-point game. There were crucial calls. We could have had two points going the other way. Now it’s a three-point game. It was just kind of a heartbreaker, but I thought we stayed composed and focused.”

On the team’s energy and how it started…
“The bench. They were in it the whole game, and they kept the energy going. That has to carry over to Saturday.”
