SPU Postgame Quotes: 2/22/14
On the team’s performance…
“We fell short. There were about four minutes in the game where they went on a run, and we didn’t recover from it. I thought we played a solid 35 minutes. That four or five-minute stretch where they went on the run, shots weren’t falling for us, and we didn’t defend. They found shooters. They made adjustments in the second half, and we didn’t answer it.”
On Seattle Pacific’s three-pointers…
“In the first half, we did great. We held them to two threes, and we were covering out. They’re going to hit some shots, but the difference, really, is that they had 15 offensive rebounds, so even when they missed, they were getting a second opportunity to put in a two. We definitely need to work on boxing out, but again, I thought we played a solid 35 minutes. That was one that we wanted, but we have two more. It’s not the end. It is sad for the seniors, obviously, because it’s their last game at home, and we didn’t send them out on a win. That’s sad for me and for the team because we really wanted it, but we have two more, and we’re going to push through and finish the season strong.”
On thoughts going into the game…
”I thought we had a great three halves in our last three games. I told them we have to do a really good job of being ahead at half time so that when we made our push in the second half, we’re ahead. We did that, and Elise [Miller] hit that three at the buzzer, and we go in up. I thought we came out a little bit flat. Our energy and our offensive execution weren’t there, but we can’t let this get in the way of our next two games. We just have to learn from it and move on.”
