WWU Postgame Quotes: 3/1/14

Brady Bergeson
On the team’s performance…
“The team’s performance was outstanding. We were focused on a game plan, stuck to it, and it took to the 40-minute mark to close the deal. We stuck to it, and it paid off.”

On the key factor to winning the game…
“In my opinion, it was a tremendous battle in the paint with their length and our strength. I don’t know who won that battle to be honest. I think it was neck and neck. I think it was a gladiator match, but when the smoke settled, I thought we did a better job of going up strong over time and getting to the free throw line. Our ball pressure can’t go without say because we were plus one on the turnover margin, and that was statistically the difference.”

On the fast-paced and physical game…
“I think we were ready for the battle. We knew what Western Washington could bring, and they give you everything you can handle. They have all kinds of fire power, and they’re hard to guard at every position. We were absolutely expecting what we got, and I’m just proud of the guys for the way they responded.”

On thoughts about the last home game of the season…
“It’s always a bittersweet deal because you’re so proud of the seniors for all they put in throughout the course of their career. Certainly, we are proud of our seniors. They’ve given so much to our program and the development of our culture here. Those guys are a part of that. It’s bittersweet because you don’t want to see them go, but at the same time, you’re happy to see them move on in the next stage of their life, and they’ll always be a wolf.”

Rodney Webster
On the team’s performance…
“The performance was good on both levels of offense and defense. It was enjoyable. It was fun. It was a really tight situation; we gave up a little lead, but we hung in there, we stuck around, and we got it done.”

On the key factor to winning the game…
“Our defensive rebounding, and also we were able to turn them over and convert those turnovers. That was really big because they beat us on rebounds, and they beat us on field goal percentage, but the big thing is we got to the free throw line, and we made most of our free throws.”

On the fast-paced and physical game…
“That’s how they really like to play. We knew we couldn’t get caught up into a fast-paced game and make poor decisions, so we played at the pace they wanted to play, but we took care of the ball and took great shots for ourselves and the team.”

On thoughts about the last home game of the season…
“It’s bittersweet. I enjoy waking up before the sun, working out with the team. It’s bittersweet, but I enjoyed it. All good things come to an end.”

Andy Avgi
On the team’s performance…
“It was good overall. Everyone did their role and just doing what we do. We lost the rebounding battle, but we set a goal to have 15 offensive rebounds, and we did that. Our shooting percentage was a little down, but overall the team did really well.”

On the key factor to winning the game…
“I think the grit we had in the end of the stretch. We just knew that we had to get the loose balls, we just had to make free throws, and we had to make smart shots. We turned it over a little bit, but we didn’t get down on it, and we kept going.”

On the fast-paced and physical game…
“That’s how it was over there when we played them the first time, and we lost. We weren’t expecting anything different. They’re a good team. They’re fast. We handled it pretty well. Our posts were being physical. Their posts were being physical, and it was just overall a good game.”

On thoughts about the last home game of the season…
“It was good home game especially for the seniors. We kind of just let them have it. We gave it to them. It was definitely a good game.”
