Former All-American WOU standout safety Bryce Peila returns to Monmouth and his alma mater as an assistant defensive backs coach for the 2019 season.
Peila left his mark at McArthur Field as the two-time All-American safety and three-time GNAC recipient finished his career second all-time in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in career interceptions with 20 and adding 437 return yards on those interceptions to set a conference record. Over the last three years of his career, Peila had at least five interceptions per year going for a career-high nine during his junior year, after tallying six during his sophomore year and finishing his senior year with five. In addition, he took three back for touchdowns, piling up a pair of scores during his sophomore year.
After playing four years (2009-12) at WOU, Peila went on to play five years in the Arena Football League where he was part of the 2017 Arena Bowl (XXX) Champion Philadelphia Soul. He was named to the second-team All-Arena Team in 2014 and was named a top-50 player with the Portland Thunder coming in at #37.
Peila graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from WOU and is currently working on a master’s in education.
