Jason Slowey recently completed his sixth season back on the staff of the Western Oregon football staff after rejoining the staff during the 2014 season. Slowey originally came back on staff as the Director of Football Operations and Assistant Offensive Line Coach. He moved to Tight Ends Coach in 2015 and then moved to his current position of being in charge of the linebackers in 2017, along with keeping his Director of Football Opertaions duties.
The 2019 season was a memorable year as the Wolves clinched their first-ever share of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title following a 5-1 conference record and a clinching win at home over Azusa Pacific in which linebacker Nate Proctor, Jr.'s blocked field goal sent the Wolves into history.Â
The linebackers in 2019 made plays all over the field. The top three tacklers on the team this season were all linebackers led by Nate Proctor, Jr.'s 70 stops. Jaylin Parnell added 68 and Tyler Whard with 60. Combined the trio had 198 tackles, 118 solo stops, 23 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, an interception, five passes broken up, five quarterback hurries, four forced fumbles. All three earned GNAC postseason honors and both Parnell and Proctor, Jr. were nominated for the Cliff Harris Award.
Slowey, hailing from Medford, Oregon, was a 2 time All-American Offensive Tackle for the Wolves from 2007- 2011. After redshirting as a true-freshman, Slowey became a 4 year starter earning 3 All-GNAC selections, an All-Region selection and was named GNAC Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2011.
Slowey became just the 3rd Western Oregon player to be selected in the NFL draft, when San Francisco took him in the 6th round in 2012. After spending time with the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, and the BC Lions of the CFL, Slowey was forced to retire due to a series of back injuries.
Slowey was also a standout on the Wolves track and field team, amassing 4 GNAC Championships, 5 All-Region Selections, and 11 All-GNAC Selections during his 4 years. The 2011 Marquis Spa Track Athlete of the Year finished his career on 3 GNAC and 3 Western Oregon Top 10 All-Time lists.
The Interdisciplinary Studies graduate is currently working on his Master of Science in Education here at Western Oregon University.
