Trey Shimabukuro

Trey Shimabukuro, a four-year quarterback for the Wolves during his career, returned to his alma mater as the quarterbacks coach in 2016 once his playing career concluded.

This past season, he helped guide one of the top passing attacks in the country and in the process helped WOU make history by clinching a share of the program’s first Great Northwest Athletic Conference title. WOU passed for 2,452 yards and 21 touchdowns, while overall averaging over 34 points per game and piled up 5,119 yards and 53 total touchdowns on offense. Star senior quarterback Ty Currie took home GNAC Offensive Player of the Year and was a nominee for the Harlon Hill Trophy after throwing for 2,397 yards and 20 touchdowns. He added 825 rushing yards and 11 more touchdowns on the ground, setting a new WOU school record for rushing touchdowns since the program moved to NCAA Division II.

During the 2018 season, WOU passed for 1,899 yards and 19 touchdowns, while overall the offense tallied 3,564 yards and 26 touchdowns. Currie led the offense again throwing for 1,851 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also added 397 rushing yards and a touchdown.

During his career at WOU from 2012-15, Shimabukuro played in 19 games, completing 183 passes for 2,207 yards and 14 touchdowns. Seeing action in all four seasons of his career, Shimabukuro tossed three touchdowns and threw for 541 yards as a junior. He then capped his career in style completing 105 passes for 1,359 yards and 10 touchdowns. He averaged almost 200 passing yards per game and had a long pass of 56 yards.

A native of Lihue, Hawaii, Shimabukuro played at Kauai High School where he lettered all four years in football while receiving All-State and All-League honors for two seasons at quarterback.
