2021-22 Women's Basketball Roster
Biography
Not only did Casandra White perform well on the court, but also excelled in the classroom. The junior transfer arrives at Western Oregon University joining the women's basketball team after spending the previous two seasons at Peninsula Junior College.
"I had the opportunity to watch Cas throughout her AAU career with the Modesto Magic and we actually recruited her to come to WOU last year. She had an additional year to play due to an injury so she decided to stay at Peninsula," WOU head coach Holli Howard-Carpenter said. "An extra year with Coach Crumb was a great thing and we were thrilled to have another opportunity to recruit her to WOU. Cas is a pure shooter and will help spread the floor for us. She also has a high basketball IQ and brings a ton of experience both on and off the floor. Besides being a great competitor, Cas is a stellar student and one of the most humble, well-rounded young women I've recruited. I'm thankful she chose WOU and I can't wait for her to get to campus next fall."
White, a 5-foot-9 guard, started right away as a leader to begin her collegiate career, named a captain as a freshman at Peninsula JC where she showed her all-around game throughout the two seasons. She started her career connecting on over 42 percent from three-point range (third-best in the conference), while averaging just over seven points per game, along with 4.4 rebounds a game in 21 total games that included six starts. Six times she scored in double-figures, reaching a season-high 18 at Everett. White added to that her sophomore year averaging 10.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and hit on 32 percent from long range and was once again named a team captain. Fifteen times she reached double-digits in scoring with a season-high 19 points at Edmonds. White helped lead the team to a 18-7 overall record and 11-3 conference mark this past season, advancing to the NWAC Championship Tournament before the event was cancelled.
While her on the court numbers certainly stand out, she performed just as well in the classroom holding an over 3.5 GPA, being named to the honor roll and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. White was part of the Associated Student Council Vice President of programming her first year, before moving up to the President as a sophomore.
White's former head coach at Peninsula, Alison Crumb, had high praise of Casandra.
"Cas is just such a great person, and she loves the game. She wants to get better, she wants to play, and she wants to win. It's not hard to coach a kid who believes in the same things that you do, and is willing to work for it, and Cas is that kind of kid. We are going to miss her greatly, but know what she will do in Monmouth, what she did for Port Angeles."
Originally from Modesto, Calif., White played at Modesto Christian High School and also for the Modesto Magic AAU squad. She was a dual-sport athlete in high school playing both basketball and volleyball, earning Scholar-Athlete accolades. On the basketball court she earned MMC honorable mention and was Second Team All-League. In volleyball, she was a senior captain and earned First Team All-League honors. The academic honors started early on in her career as White held a 4.0, being named to the honor roll, as well as the National Art Honors Society Vice President.
