Becca Holtgeerts will join the Western Oregon University volleyball staff as an assistant coach for the coming season as announced by head coach Kaiao Nahale-a.

"Hard work pays off. Coach Becca has been a great ambassador of hard work and dedication to the sport of volleyball throughout her coaching career. Everyone you talk to has nothing but great things to say about her! She will be bringing in a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm that will make our program stronger! I feel lucky to not only strengthen, but ultimately surround myself and the program with one of the next great coaches from the Pacific Northwest!" Nahale-a said.

Holtgeerts recently spent the past couple of years as a volunteer assistant coach on the staff at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Calif. During the 2021 season the Mustangs placed third in the Big West Conference.

In addition to coaching indoor volleyball, Holtgeerts has experience with beach volleyball spending time as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Louisiana-Monroe coaching both indoor and beach volleyball. She went on to earn her master's degree in exercise science.

"I am so excited to join the volleyball program at Western Oregon! I look forward to working with Kaiao and the team, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to help strengthen this program. I have been fortunate to have many coaching mentors, and I would like to thank each of them for helping prepare me for this opportunity. I can't wait to get to work!" Holtgeerts said.

A Pacific Northwest native, Holtgeerts is originally from Everett, Wash., graduating from Cascade High School in 2010. She went on to attend Pacific Lutheran in Parkland, Wash., from 2010-14. Holtgeerts helped lead the Lutes to three trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament and claim two Northwest Conference Championships. The middle blocker was part of a PLU team that won 76 percent of its games during her career, including a 55-9 record in NWC matches. She went on to graduate from PLU in 2014 with a degree in business and a minor in sport psychology and personal training.

Holtgeerts began her coaching career with the Nevillizms Volleyball and Lake Washington High School in Kirkland, before returning to PLU. During the 2017 and 18 seasons, she helped the Lutes to a pair of NWC titles and to the NCAA Tournament in both seasons.
