Box Score ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - The Western Oregon women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, Thursday (Sept. 4), as it was defeated 7-0 by Sonoma State at Rohnert Park, Calif.
The Seawolves jumped out to the early lead as Tracy Webster snuck a shot by WOU goalkeeper Brittney Rigtrup in the 14th minute of play to go up 1-0. This was the first goal Rigtrup had yielded this season after 166 minutes in net. The scoring would continue in favor of Sonoma State throughout the first half as it took a 5-0 lead to the locker room.
Kelsie Blachly took over in net the second half and recorded five saves however the Seawolves got two shots past for the 7-0 win.
Freshman Monique Thees had the best shot of the day for Western Oregon as her shot in the 18th minute of the first half was saved by Sonoma State goaltender Courtney Grixti.
The Wolves 2-0 start was the first time in the 13 years of the program that it opened the season at home with consecutive victories.
The Western Oregon women's soccer team will continue its California road trip Saturday, Sept. 6, at noon, as it faces Notre Dame de Namur at Belmont, Calif.
