Box Score BELLINGHAM, Wash.--Conference leader Western Washington got on the board once in the first half and then made that lone digit lead hold up for a 1-0 win over Western Oregon on Saturday afternoon at Harrington Field.
The No. 8 nationally ranked Vikings, who now have 28 conference points, nine more than anyone else, improved to 9-0-1 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and to 11-1-3 overall. They have an unbeaten streak of 13 matches.
But Western Oregon, who is now 2-8-4 on the year and 1-6-3 in the GNAC, gave WWU a jolt.
The Vikings put the only score of the match on the board at 38:15 on Olivia Connell's goal. After that defense ruled the day for both teams. WOU goalkeeper
Ayanah Soon directed the defense and had four saves in the match. On offense, Western Oregon had three shots on goal in the second half but each of the shots was saved by WWU keeper Ellie McGowan.
The upset-minded Wolves have only given up three total goals in their last three matches. Meanwhile, Western Washington now has a 38-match unbeaten streak in the GNAC dating back to 2023.
Western Oregon now returns home to host Northwest Nazarene on Thursday (2 pm) and Central Washington on Saturday (7 pm).
