Wolves win 1-0 over NDNU

BELMONT, Calif. - The Western Oregon University women's soccer team improved its record to 3-1 this season as it defeated Notre Dame de Namur 1-0, Saturday (Sept. 6).

The Wolves got the game's only goal in the 54th minute, as senior Kristen Werhane received a pass from Monique Thees and rocketed a shot from 25 yards out over the goalkeeper and into the net for the 1-0 advantage.

Western Oregon's offense and defense took control in the second half. After allowing the Argonauts a 6-2 shot advantage in the first half, the Wolves clamped down for the 7-2 shot advantage in the second. Melinda Ingalls applied pressure all day with three of the Wolves' six shots on goal.

Brittney Rigtrup recorded five saves at goalkeeper and WOU held the 4-1 advantage in corner kicks as it improved to 3-1 on the season. Western Oregon has now won all three matches in which it has won the corner kick battle.

The Western Oregon women's soccer team will look to continue its early season success Tuesday, Sept. 9, as it faces Linfield at McMinnville, Ore, at 7:00 p.m.
