Van Patten and Applebee set school-records

- Zeke Van Patten and Annan Applebee of the Western Oregon University track and field team each set school-records at the UW Invitational, Jan. 30-31.

 

Applebee improved on her own school-record as posted a 2:12.87 in the 800-meter. Her time improved on her NCAA provisional qualifying mark and missed an automatic qualifying standard by .17 (2:12.70).  Her time ranks her in the top five all-time in Great Northwest Athletic history.

 

Van Patten posted a 14:48.40 on Friday in the men's 5,000m to earn an NCAA provisional qualifying standard and set a school-record. His time topped the previous school-record held by teammate Chris Reed which was set Dec. 6, at the UW Winter Preview. His 14:48.40 is the second-fastest time in the GNAC this season.

 

In other action, Gabe Aguilar posted the fastest time in the men's 60m in the GNAC this season with a 6.96. His time was the second best mark in GNAC indoor-history trailing only Western Oregon's Mike Hinshaw's time of 6.78 (2002). His 6.96 topped his previous season-best of 7.01.

 

Lacey Meusec ran a 26.05 in the 200m to tie for the second-best time in the GNAC this year and move into second place in Western Oregon history.

 

Zeb Udell also moved into second place in the GNAC, as he pole vaulted a season-best 15-1.5 (4.61m). Udell also posted a time of 7.21 in the 60m and a 22-5 (6.83) in the long jump.

 

Anthony Marin had a toss of 54-8.75 in the 35-pound weight throw to move into second place in the GNAC.

 

Ashley Berry secured her second place mark in school-history in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:18.22.

 

In the 60m hurdles, Mandy Keifer registered a time of 9.62 to move into a tie for sixth place in school-history with Ali Mosher.

 

Stefani Dittmar had a season-best time in the 200m to improve her sixth place mark in the GNAC.

 

"It was a productive day in which we showed people that not only should we compete with Division I opponents but we can," said head coach Mike Johnson. "We will now try to get all of our student-athletes as focused as these individuals for the GNAC Championships in Nampa (Feb. 21)."

 

Next week, the Western Oregon track and field team will be in Portland for the Portland Invitational Feb. 6.
