MONMOUTH, Ore.
- The Western Oregon University soccer team could not pull off a win in its 2009 season finale, as it fell to Central Washington 3-1, Wednesday (Nov. 4), at the WOU Soccer Field.

The Wolves end the season with a 5-12-3 record and a 3-9-0 mark in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Wildcats are now 8-9-1 on the season and 5-5-1 in the GNAC with one match remaining.

CWU scored two early goals to take an early lead which it would never relinquish. They got on the board in the 15th minute on a deep shot from Serena Tomaso and followed it up in the 26th minute on a shot right in front of the goal by Carson McKole.

After Central grabbed the two-goal lead the Wolves began to play better. It answered the CWU goal in less than a minute as senior Megan Herber recorded first career point on an assist to freshman Marina Austin as she deposited the ball in the net from 16 yards out for her second goal of the season.

"We played well once we got on the board," said WOU head coach Rod Fretz. "We let them take it at us early but after that we moved the ball well and played a good match."

The score would stay 2-1 until the 60th minute when Kaycie Hutchins scored off a corner kick to push the Wildcats' lead back to two.

WOU goalies Kelsie Blachly and Brittney Rigtrup each recorded three saves and Rachelle Kliewer led the team with five shots.
