SALEM, Ore. - Five members of the Western Oregon University track and field team earned individual titles and
Anthony Marin claimed the top discus mark in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference at the Charles Bowles Classic Friday, Mar. 20.
Marin registered a toss of 149-9 (45.64m) to pass his previous season-best throw of 133-10 (40.79m) and spring to the top of the GNAC list, one meter ahead of the nearest competitor.
Zoe Skordahl won the women's triple jump with a season-best leap of 34-3.5 (10.45m) as she moved to second on the GNAC list.
Western Oregon runners finished one-two-three in the men's 1,500m as
Chris Reed posted a time of 4:02.03, followed by
Dan Sprinkle (4:05.73) and
Brandon Snook (4:07.32). With these marks, each runner improved on their season-best time and each earned a GNAC outdoor championship provisional standard (4:08.0). Reed's time moved him to 10th on the GNAC list.
Kyle Larson and
Zach Massari finished one-two in the men's 800m with season-best times of 1:56.08 and 1:56.80, respectively.
Other men's winners included
Abe Webb in the 400m (51.14) and
Chris Freeman in the long jump (20-9.25/6.33m). Webb's time moved him to fifth on the GNAC list.
"It was a day of a lot of individual improvement," Western Oregon head coach
Mike Johnson said. "Some student-athletes got their personal-bests and others their season-best marks.
"We got some races in and got some marks for the conference meet," continued Johnson, "we are now underway with the outdoor season."
The Western Oregon track and field team will be in action again tomorrow (Mar. 21) as it competes in the Oregon Preview in Eugene, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Among those competing at the Oregon Preview for Western Oregon will be
Lacey Meusec,
Jacque Helbling,
Janna Vander Meulen,
Gabe Aguilar and
Zeb Udell along with former Western Oregon student-athletes and current assistant coaches Jessica Harper and Sarah Howell.
