Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SEASIDE, Calif. - The Western Oregon softball team played its first non-conference games this season as it dropped both games of a doubleheader to Cal State Monterey Bay, 9-5 and 4-2, Wednesday, Apr. 1.

The losses dropped the Wolves to 13-10 on the season as they remain at 13-8 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The wins pushed the Otters to 20-20-1 on the season and as they stay at 12-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Game 1
Monterey Bay put up nine runs in the first two innings and then held on for a 9-5 win.

After the Wolves had initially scored two runs in the top of the first inning on a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly, the Otters responded as the first eight batters of the inning reached base en route to scoring four runs.

Cal State Monterey Bay batted around again in the second inning as it put up six hits and five runs to take a 9-3 lead.

The Wolves would score two more runs in the fourth, on Jessica Hallmark's eighth home run of the season, to pull to within four runs at 9-5. WOU threatened in the bottom of the sixth as they put runners at second and third with no outs but the next three batters went down in order to end the rally.

Kendra George led the Wolves at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, a run and a stolen base while raising her season average to .413. Emily Kenagy hit her first home run of the season in the second inning. Lucia Rodriguez and Niki Ames both went 3-for-4 for CSUMB.

Neither starter got out of the second inning as WOU's Stephanie Albrecht (4-4) was touched up for seven runs and 10 hits in 1.1 innings and CSUMB's Shelair Rowell allowed three Wolves to score in one-plus innings.

Game 2
Cal State Monterey Bay's Ashlee Trotter homered in the top of the fourth inning to break a 2-2 tie as the Otters went on to the 4-2 win.

Both pitchers pitched complete games for their teams. Jessie Lessard (4-4) went six innings and gave up seven hits and four runs (three earned) for WOU but was best by her counterpart from CSUMB Jessica Boyle (7-10) who yielded just five hits and two runs in her seven innings of work.

The Wolves were limited to just five hits in the game with two coming off the bat of Kylee Hancock, who was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Otters took a 1-0 lead in the in bottom of the first before the Wolves tied it up in their half of the second on a double by Hancock. Cal State Monterey Bay would take a 2-1 lead in the top of the second on a bases loaded single but WOU once again responded as Jessica Hallmark singled to score Tierra-Lyn Cuba and knot the game at two until Trotter's homer.
