BILLINGS, Mont. - The Western Oregon University softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Great Northwest Athletic Conference leader Montana State Billings Friday, Apr. 10 dropping game one 2-1 and game two 4-2.
The losses drop the Wolves to 15-17 on the season and 13-10 in the GNAC, five-and-a-half games behind MSU Billings which is now 28-10 and 19-5 in conference.
Game 1
Steph Gosselin homered with two out in the bottom of the sixth to break a 1-1 and send Montana State Billings to a 2-1 victory in game one.
Jessica Wood pitched the complete game for WOU giving up three hits and two run while walking one and striking out five but the combo for MSUB was better Rebekah Tsatsa and Kasie Conder went seven giving up seven hits but just the one run.
Western Oregon got on the board first with a run in the top of the third as
Jessica Hallmark doubled in
Tyler Sutherland who had led off the inning with a double.
The Yellowjackets tied the game in their half of the third on a single by Crystal Bentley.
Hallmark was the leading hitter for WOU going 3-for-4 with that RBI while
Bailey Rueck was 2-for-3.
Game 2
Western Oregon loaded the bases with one outs, trailing by two in the top of the seventh but could not get the hit to tie the game as it dropped game two 4-2.
After
Kylee Hancock led of the seventh with a home run to pull the Wolves to within two at 4-2
Sasha Koki singled,
Tyler Sutherland doubled and
Tierra-Lyn Cuba walked to load the bases with one out. Hallmark then hit into a double play cutting down
Rocky Knuth, who had come in as a runner for Koki, at home for the first out. MSUB pitcher Lisa Moore then struck out
Amanda Fleer to end the game.
Overall the Wolves left eight runners on base to the Yellowjackets' six. Sutherland recorded two of WOU's five hits in the game.
Montana State Billings struck for two in the second and two more in the fifth as it went ahead 4-1.
Stephanie Albrecht went all six innings for Western Oregon yielding six hits and four runs (two earned) while walking three and striking out two.

These two teams will play another doubleheader tomorrow (Apr. 11) beginning at noon.
