BILLINGS, Mont. - The Western Oregon University softball team split a doubleheader with Montana State Billings Saturday (Apr. 11) falling in game one 5-2 before winning game two 7-2 as it remained five-and-a-half games back of MSUB in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings.
The Wolves are now 16-18 on the season and 14-11in the GNAC while the Yellowjackets are 29-11 with a 20-6 mark in conference.
Game 1
Kasie Conder pitched a complete game giving up two runs (one earned) and six hits while striking out eight to lead MSU Billings to a 5-2 win in game one.
Montana State Billings got its offense off a two-run homer by Whitney Whittemore in the second and a two-run double from Terina Stacks in the fourth to build a 4-2 lead and Conder took it from there.
Tierra-Lynn Cuba was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead WOU, which outhit MSUB six to five. She gave the Wolves its only lead of the game as she hit a solo home run in the top of the first.
Jessica Wood (7-7) suffered the loss as she allowed five runs on four hits in 3.1 innings of work.
Game 2
Western Oregon put up four runs in the top of the first as it went on to outhit Montana State Billings 12 to four in game two en route to the 7-2 victory.
The Wolves' three thru six hitters combined to go 10-for-16 in the game as
Bailey Rueck and
Kylee Hancock both recorded performances of 3-for-4 while
Jessica Hallmark and
Kendra George were both 2-for-4. Hancock also had three RBI while Hallmark and
Amanda Fleer added two apiece.
Hancock delivered the big hit in the first inning as she homered over the center field wall to score three and put WOU in front 4-0.
Jessie Lessard earned the victory as she gave up four hits and two runs over seven innings while striking out three.
Next Game
The Western Oregon softball team will now travel to Arcata, Calif., Wednesday Apr. 15 to play No 6 Humboldt State University in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
