Udell earns NCAA auto qualifying mark

- Zeb Udell earned an NCAA automatic qualifying standard in the men's pole vault as he cleared a height of 16-6.75 (5.05m) at the Lewis & Clark Invitational Saturday, Apr. 18.

The mark improved on his own school-record of 16-6 (5.03m) that he set earlier this season at the Oregon Preview. He won the event at the meet and moved into a tie for fourth place in the country along with five other individuals that have a mark of 16-6.75 (5.05m).

Nik Karr posted the second-best time in the 10,000m in Western Oregon history with mark of 31:28.0. That time moves him into seventh place in Great Northwest Athletic Conference as he moved into won the event at the Lewis & Clark Invite.

Robert Wegner moved into third place in the conference in the high jump after clearing a height of 6-4 (1.93m) to take second in the event.

Brandon Snook ran a 9:40.35 in the 3000m steeplechase to move to fifth place in the conference.

Erica Snawder qualified for the GNAC championships with a time of 12:15.07.

"The GNAC has turned itself into one of the better conferences in the nation with national qualifiers in almost all events besides the sprints," Western Oregon head coach Mike Johnson said. "As well as we are doing we are going to have to continue to improve to compete at the conference championships"

Western Oregon will send Jacque Helbling and Mandy Keifer to compete in the heptathlon portion of the GNAC championships Apr. 20-21 at the Ellensburg, Wash., while Zeb Udell and Austin Roberts will represent the Wolves in the decathlon.
