, Calif. - Regina Farfan limited Western Oregon to just two hits and two runs in seven innings of works as Cal State Dominguez Hills defeated the Wolves 6-2 at the Mizuno Tournament of Champions, Friday, Apr. 3.

 

The loss dropped the Wolves to 14-11 on the season as they remain 13-8 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. With the win the Toros improve to 15-13 on the season.

 

Western Oregon got both its runs in the first inning. With runners at first and third, Jessica Hallmark and Tyler Sutherland executed a double steal with Hallmark taking second base and Sutherland home for the Wolves' first run of the day. Hallmark would score the second run of the inning on an error by the first baseman.

 

CSUDH answered back with two runs in its half of the inning on a two-run single by Liz Vazquez to tie the game at two.

 

Western Oregon would get only one more hit in the game, a bunt single by Rocky Knuth, and Cal State Dominguez Hills put up four runs in the fourth as it when on to the 6-2 win.

 

The Western Oregon softball team will play three games tomorrow (Apr. 4) in the Mizuno Tournament of Champions as it faces San Francisco State at 10:15 a.m., Cal State Monterey Bay at 12:15 p.m., and Chico State at 6:15 p.m.

 

The tournament will conclude Apr. 5 with the bracket play for the championships. Western Oregon is currently leading its pool as it was the only GNAC to win a game on the opening day of the tournament.
