Wolves' home winning streak snapped

MONMOUTH, Ore.
- Western Washington came into Monmouth and snapped Western Oregon's 19-match home winning streak with a 25-17, 25-17, 23-25 and 25-22 victory Saturday (Sept. 19).

The win moved WWU to 9-4 on the season and to 2-0 in the GNAC. WOU fell to 4-9 and 1-1 in conference.

The Vikings used a .280 to .159 hitting percentage advantage to earn the road win as they committed just 12 hitting errors to the Wolves' 27.

"We were not ourselves tonight," Western Oregon head coach Brad Saindon explained. "We played very on Thursday to get a very important home win but we could not replicate that effort tonight."

"Those 27 errors defined the whole match," Saindon continued. "We had did not pass or set well and there was no rhythm. All those things are my responsibility so this match falls on me."

Danielle Reese continues to put up double-doubles with kills and digs, this time notching 11 kills and 11 digs for her fifth straight double-double. Freshman Samantha Ward led the Wolves with 16 kills as Sylvia Herrold and Laura Sakala added eight apiece. Herron was the team-leader with 42 assists and Herrold with 2.5 blocks. Cally Young chipped in with a match-best 24 digs. Emily Jepsen was the kill leader for WWU, registering 15 kills on 28 attempts with just two errors for a .464 hitting percentage.

"Western Washington is a good team but we are not out of the race for the GNAC title," continued Saindon. "We expect the conference champion to have four losses."

The Western Oregon volleyball team will continue the defense of it GNAC title next Thursday (Sept. 24) as it travels to Seattle Pacific.
