MONMOUTH, Ore. -
Taylor Thompson scored her second goal of the season in Western Oregon's 2-1 loss to Saint Martin's on Sunday, Oct. 10.
Thompson's goal, assisted by
LaChante Horton, was shot from the right and entered into the lower left of the Saints' net at the 58th minute. Thompson, a midfielder from Clackamas, Ore. (Clackamas High School), had previously scored the game-winning goal last competition, against Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, Oct. 2.
Despite taking 22 shots (11 on goal) for Western Oregon, Thompson was the only goal scorer for the Wolves. SMU's goal keeper, Gina Cardenas, saved 10 of the Wolves' shots.
“We were attacking aggressively and 'banging at the door,'” explained head coach Rod Fretz. However, WOU (2-9-0, 1-6-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) could not connect passes for a goal to tie it.
Jill Webb, of SMU (3-8-0, 2-5-0 GNAC), had the first goal of the game at the 16th minute. Kelcy Ware assisted Webb, who chipped it over Wolves' goalie Brittney RIgtrup for the goal. The Saint's second goal came from Jenny Baker towards the end of the first half. The goal-scoring play began with a corner kick from Caley Wiseman, which was a short pass to Webb, who then set up Baker for a header goal.
Western Oregon will stay home for its next match against Simon Fraser on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 3:00 p.m.
