MONMOUTH, Ore. -
Taylor Thompson finished off a pass from
Marina Austin right in front of the goal to lift Western Oregon past Northwest Nazarene in overtime, 3-2, on Saturday, Oct. 2.
Austin was an offensive spark plug for the Wolves (2-8-0, 1-5-0) throughout the match withtwo goals and an assist. She sent the match to overtime with a goal in the 83rd minute when she redirected a
LaChante Horton cross into the net. She also had seven (six on goal) of the Wolves' 15 shots in the match.
The Austin-Horton combo was also responsible for the first goal of the match. In the ninth minute, Horton left the ball for Austin just inside the top of the box, allowing Austin to beat the goalie to it and lift it over it over her head for the goal.
The Wolves' early lead would not hold long as the Crusaders' Marie Smith scored in the 11th and 28th minutes to give NNU (4-6-0, 2-4-0) the lead at the half.
Brittney Rigtrup earned the win for the WOU while making two saves.
Western Oregon will be at home for its next match against Saint Martin's on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 1:00 p.m.
