MONMOUTH, Ore. - Making the most of Senior Day, the Wolves whacked the Wildcats, 4-0, in a game with sophomore midfielder,
Kymberly Witmer, leading the pack with two unassisted goals and two assists. Wolf trio
Marina Austin,
Kelsey Herrick, and Witmer scored all the goals of the match during the second half.
“Witmer was without a doubt player of the match” asserted Western Oregon head coach Rod Fretz.
Following a no score first half, Austin, opened the flood gates with the first goal less than 10 minutes into the second half. Austin was assisted by a leading pass from Witmer, which allowed Austin to make a breakaway run where she found herself one v one with the Central Washington keeper. Austin finished with a precision upper-net shot.
The second Western Oregon goal came three minutes after the first. Snatching a deflected ball, Witmer scored an unassisted goal by rocketing the ball into the top left of the goal. CWU goal keep, Kori Butterfield, managed to get one hand on the ball, but could not stop the shot (2-0).
Kymberly Witmer's second goal of the match followed seven minutes later. Unassisted again, Witmer found another deflected ball from the keeper and placed it into the lower left corner of the net at the 64th minute (3-0).
With 12:00 left in the game,
Kelsey Herrick scored off a rebound assisted by Witmer and
Rachelle Kliewer, a senior, who had made attempts on goal. Herrick launched the ball into an open net bringing the final score to a 4-0 Wolf win.
Senior veteran goal keep,
Kelsie Blachly, ended her last career home game with a shutout. No. 1 Blachly de-clawed the Wildcat offense making five saves total.
Central Washington (4-11-2, 4-8-1 GNAC) brought an intense, physical game with 15 fouls, 14 shots, and six corner kicks. CWU also had one yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct and one red card for violent conduct. Western Oregon (3-14-0, 2-11-0 GNAC) outshot CWU with 15 total and 11 shots on target.
Fretz explained the match, “we had good looking goals go into the net… it was a good day to have the seniors' last home game.”
The Western Oregon soccer team will close out its 2010 season next Sunday, Nov. 7, at Saint Martin's. The match will start at 3:00 p.m.
