MONMOUTH, Ore.
- Four Western Oregon student-athletes scored in double-figures but in the end it was Hawaii Pacific which earned a 71-65 win over Western Oregon in the WOU/Phoenix Inn D2 Shootout on Saturday, Nov. 20.

Blair Wheadon scored 17 points to lead the Wolves (1-3) in scoring while playing all 40 minutes. Tarance Glynn had 13 points to go along with a team-best four assists and seven rebounds. Kolton Nelson, who was named to the all-tournament team, scored 12 points for his third game in double-figures this season and Kyle Long also added 12 points. Long and Wheadon each dished out four assists.

Western Oregon never led in the game. Hawaii Pacific scored the first seven points of the game and extended its lead to 12 points (41-29) at the half. Western Oregon started the second half on a 10-2 run to cut the Sea Warriors' lead to four. HPU, however, had another run left in it as it pushed its lead back into double-figures (56-45) with just under 10 minutes left. The Wolves did cut the lead to two points with 00:36 remaining thanks to a 7-0 run but that is as close as they would get.

"In the first half we were outhustled, outscrapped and they did a nice job taking us out of our stuff offensively," said Western Oregon head coach Craig Stanger. "I liked our resiliency in the second half. We showed heart and attitude but it is just too much to ask to dig yourself out of a hole against a good team."

Kyle Allen had 14 points and 13 rebounds to lead Hawaii Pacific (3-1). Nick Frazier led all scorers with 18 points.

Western Oregon will host the Capitol City Classic next weekend (Nov. 26-27). The Wolves will take on Pacifica on Friday and the winner of the Corban and Willamette game on Saturday. Both games will start at 7:00 p.m.
