MONMOUTH, Ore. -
Kyle Long scored 32 points to lead the Wolves to 99-66 victory over Multnomah on Thursday, Dec. 2. The Wolves would take the lead early and never relinquish their hold over the Lions.
The win evens the Wolves' (0-1 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) record at 4-4 on the season and drops Multnomah to 3-6.
Long scored 24 of his 32 point in the first half, as he went 10-of-12 from the field and 4-of-6 in the opening period. He finished the game 13-of-16 and 6-of-9 from long range. Long would also add five assists and five rebounds.
He was also helped in the scoring column by four other Wolves in double-figures.
Kris White scored a career high of 15 points, 11 of which came in the first half.
Blair Wheadon,
Tarance Glynn and
Jordan Freelander would each add 10 points apiece.
DeAngelo Davis came off the bench to snag a career-high nine rebounds and Wheadon led WOU with eight assists.
WOU shot 82.4 percent from the line, with
Tarance Glynn shooting 4-of-4. Western also shot 42.9 percent from three-point range in the second half (37.9 overall). The Wolves had 44 points in the paint while the Lions managed just 18. A third of Western's 99 points would come from bench points.
There would be four quick lead changes within the six minutes of the game. The Lions put up a fight, but Glynn would clench the lead with a lay-up assisted by Long. The Wolves would take the lead for good with a 9-0 run to stretch their two-point lead into double-figures. They would extend the run to 21-6 and take a 58-33 lead into halftime.
After the half, the Wolves were able to take advantage of their lead as coach Craig Stanger was able to play his entire bench. All 11 active student-athletes played at least 10 minutes in the contest.
Western Oregon will now get back into conference play this Saturday (Dec. 4) as Tim Hills and the Northwest Nazarene Crusaders come to town for a 4:30 p.m. tipoff.
