ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Western Oregon dropped both games of a doubleheader to Central Washington, Monday (Mar. 1), falling in game one 3-1 and 9-1 in game two.
The Wolves are now 2-3 on the season and 1-3 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The wins evened the Wildcats record at 3-3 on the season and they went to 3-1 in conference.
Game 1
Lauren Hadenfeld (1-1) pitched a complete game allowing five hits and one run while striking out eight batters to lead CWU over WOU 3-1 in the opener.
Ashley Fix singled in two runners in the bottom of the fourth inning for the first runs of the game and the Wildcats never relinquished the lead.
Western Oregon cut Central Washington's lead to one in the fifth on a solo home run by
Kendra George, but CWU added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning for the final margin of victory.
Tyler Sutherland,
Jessica Hallmark,
Amanda Fleer,
Miranda Little and
Kendra George all had one hit apiece for the Wolves. Danielle Monson led the Wildcats' offense going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Jessica Wood took the loss for WOU after giving up two runs (one earned) in four innings pitched.
Game 2
Lindy Baxter (1-2) earned the win for the Wildcats in game two pitching a complete game, as she scattered five hits and one run over six innings.
CWU's offense busted out for nine runs in the nightcap. It scored four in the second, one in the third and two apiece in the fourth and sixth innings. Jennifer Schwartz and Samantha Petrich both recorded two RBI, and nine different Wildcats crossed the plate.
Tyler Sutherland and
Tierra-Lyn Cuba collected two hits each for WOU, while Sutherland scored the team's only run.
Freshman
Brittany Reeves (1-1) was charged with the loss, after surrendering five runs in 2.1 innings pitched.
Western Oregon left seven runners on base and Central Washington left 10.
Next games
The Wolves will now return home to take on conference co-favorites Montana State Billings, Mar. 6-7. Saturday's game will start at noon and Sunday's contest will begin at 11:00 a.m.
