WOU takes two to win the series

LACEY, Wash. - The Western Oregon softball team swept a doubleheader from Saint Martin's Sunday (Mar. 14), to take three of the four games in the series.

With the wins the Wolves moved to 9-8 on the season and to 7-5 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The losses dropped the Saints to 5-12 and 4-8 in the GNAC.

Game 1
Kelsey White held Saint Martin's to one hit and one walk in her 4.2 innings of relief to help lead Western Oregon to a 5-1 win in game one.

White entered the game in the bottom of the third with the bases loaded and retired the next two batters while yielding only a sac fly to keep the game tied at 1-1.

The next inning the Wolves' pushed three runs across thanks to two SMU errors and two bases loaded walks to grab a 4-1 lead. That would be all White would need en route to her third win of the season.

Tyler Sutherland and Miranda Little both scored twice for WOU, while Bailey Rueck and Stephanie Albrecht each had two hits. Four different Wolves recorded an RBI.

Game 2
Amanda Fleer singled in Tyler Sutherland for the game-winning run in the top of the seventh to help WOU grab a 6-5 win in game two.

Kelsey White (4-0) picked up her second win of the doubleheader after pitching the final two innings of the contest.

Jessica Hallmark's grand slam in the top of the third accounted for four of the Wolves' six runs as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three. Tyler Sutherland also added, an RBI, two hits and three runs scored.

Next games
The softball team will now come home to face Northwest Nazarene Mar. 19-20.
