[Sunday's tournament bracket]
TURLOCK, Calif. - The Western Oregon University softball team went 2-1 at the Mizuno Tournament of Champions, Saturday, Mar. 28th. The Wolves opened with an 8-0 win over Notre Dame de Namur and then defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 4-1, before falling to Sonoma State 13-3.
The Wolves now stand at 15-11 on the season.
Game 1
Brittany Reeves hurled a complete game shutout and
Amanda Fleer drove in four runs, as the Wolves defeated the Argonauts 8-0.
Reeves (2-2) allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out seven over six innings for the win. She did not give up a hit after the second inning.
Fleer went 2-for-4 with four RBI, which included a three-run double.
Tyler Sutherland scored two runs and went 3-for-4 with an RBI out of the leadoff spot.
Bailey Rueck also notched two hits including two RBI on her fifth home run of the season.
Jessica Hallmark also crossed the plate twice.
Game 2
Western Oregon scored two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to come from one run down take the game from Cal State Monterey Bay 4-1.
Sasha Koki put the Wolves in front for good with a two-run double in the top of the fifth.
Andrea Bailey and
Jessica Hallmark both collected two hits apiece and four different student-athletes scored for Western Oregon.
Jessica Wood (2-3) earned the win with a complete game performance. She went all seven innings allowing seven hits and one unearned run while striking out four.
Game 3
Sonoma State scored in every inning after the second, including putting five runs on the board in the top of the fourth to earn a 13-3 win.
Janelle Arnold went 2-for-4 with four RBI for the Seawolves, including a three-run homer. Samantha Lipperd pitched a complete game and earned her 13th win of the year.
Jessica Hallmark,
Amanda Fleer and
Tierra-Lyn Cuba each collected two hits for Western Oregon. Hallmark accounted for two of the Wolves' three runs, and Fleer had the other with her second home run of the season.
Sunday's games
Western Oregon will now enter the Silver Bracket of the Tournament. It will open with San Francisco State Sunday (Mar. 28th), at 9:15 a.m., in this single-elimination tournament. If it wins the first game it will face the winner of CSU Stanislaus/Saint Martin's at 1:45 p.m.
