SALEM, Ore. - The Western Oregon track & field team opened the outdoor season by capturing 12 individual event titles at the Willamette Opener, Saturday, Mar. 6.
The women grabbed seven titles and the men added five more.
Highlighting the women's performances was
Carolanne Powers and
Kaitlyn Reid. Powers recorded a javelin toss of 133-1(40.57m) to earn an NCAA provisional qualifying standard and move into sixth place in school history. Reid ran a 1:04.89 in the 400m hurdles to win the event and move into eighth place on the Wolves' all-time top 10 list.
Other Western Oregon women winning their events include
Lacey Meusec in the 100m dash (12.49),
Meryl Butcher in the 400m (1:00.18),
Zoe Skordahl in the 800m (2:21.27) and
Erika Snawder in the 1500m (4:45.22). The women Wolves also swept the relays winning the 4x100m in a time of 48.96 and the 4x400m with a time of 4:04.08.
Andy Loscutoff continued his success for the indoor season as he won both hurdle events. He posted a time of 15.13 in the 110m hurdles to win the event by .68 seconds. He then followed it up with a 54.46 in the 400m hurdles to take the event by over two seconds.
Other winners for the Western Oregon men included Bobby Alexander in the 100m dash with a time of 11.08. The Wolves' pole vaulters finished one-two in the event.
Jayce Giddens cleared 15-1 (4.60m) to win the event, as
Austin Roberts placed second with a mark of 13-7.25 (4.15m).
Jason Slowey also carried over his success from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Championships en route to winning the shot put with a toss of 49-10 (15.19m).
The outdoor season for the Western Oregon track & field team continues Mar. 20th at the Oregon Preview in Eugene.
