T&F: Wolves host Twilight meet Friday

What's happening:

The Western Oregon University track & field team will host the annual John Knight Twilight meet this Friday (Apr. 9), in its only non-championship home meet of the 2010 outdoor season. The field events will get started at 3:15 p.m., with the men's shot put. The running events will begin at 4:30 p.m., with the women's 4x100m relay. The meet will also feature an alumni and parent mile run.

The Facilities:
The meet will be held at McArthur Field on the campus of Western Oregon University. The track is an international-standard sized and is a 400-meter oval features 48-inch-wide lanes, a wider radius on the curves conducive to record performances. The throwing events will take place on the south side of the stadium, except for the javelin which will take place on the infield of the track.

The provisional five:
Five Western Oregon individuals have already earned NCAA provisional standards this outdoor season.

Ashley Potter recorded a distance of 39-8.75 (12.11m) in the women's triple jump to climb into third place on the 2010 NCAA performance list, while just missing the automatic standard by four centimeters.

Chris Reed is the lone representative from the men's team to earn a provisional standard. His time of 14:24.24 in the 5000m at the Stanford Invitational has him sitting fourth in the country.

Janelle Everetts also earned her provisional standard at the Stanford Invitational. She ran a time of 2:13.15 in the 800m for the eighth fastest time in the NCAA this season.

Amanda Schumaker and Carolanne Powers both improved their NCAA provisional standards at the Willamette Invite with throws of 140-0 (42.68m) and 138-3 (42.15m), respectively.

Wolves on top of the GNAC performance list:
A number of WOU student-athletes are currently sitting atop the 2010 GNAC performance list.

Ashley Potter set the GNAC record in the women's triple jump with a leap of 39-8.75 (12.11m) at the Stanford Invite. Her leap eclipsed the previous conference record by five centimeters.

Loscutoff ranks first in both men's hurdles events. He ran a time of 15.13 in the 110m hurdles at the Willamette Opener to grab the top spot in the conference. In the same meet he also posted a time of 54.46 in the 400m hurdles, to lead the event in GNAC by over a half-second (.65). Both of these times have stood as the best in the conference for nearly a month.

Matson Hardie is first in the triple jump with a leap of 45-4.5 (13.83m), which he obtained at the Oregon Preview. He holds the lead by four inches over James Cho of Central Washington.

Lacey Meusec is tied for first in the women's 100m dash with a time of 12.49, which she earned at the Willamette Opener. She also sits third in the 200m with a time of 25.96.

The Wolves 4x400m relay team of Stefani Dittmar, McKenzie Redberg, Carolanne Powers and Lacey Meusec lowered its time to 48.35 at the Willamette Invite as they continue to lead the GNAC this season.

The Wolves also have numerous student-athletes ranking second on the performance list, such as McKenzie Redberg in the women's 200m (25.91), Matt Kaino in the men's 400m (48.30), Kaitlyn Reid in the women's 400m hurdles (1:04.01), Robert Wegner in the men's high jump (6-1.5/1.87m), Jayce Giddens in the pole vault (15-1/4.60m), Will Crook in the men's javelin (191-6/58.38m), and Jason Slowey in both the men's shot put (49-10/15.19m) and discus throw (155-1/47.26m).

Movement on the top 10:
Eleven Western Oregon student-athletes have moved onto or up on the Wolves' all-time top 10 list.

Sophomore Ashley Potter climbed from fourth to first place on the Wolves' all-time top 10 list in the triple jump with a mark of 39-8.75 (12.11m) at the Stanford invite. That mark was nearly two feet longer than her previous best mark and broke the 16-year school record held by Alicia Marshall (38-11.75).

Chris Reed ran a time of 14:24.24 in the 5000m to climb to second in WOU history and to fourth on the all-time GNAC list. He also registered a time of 3:53.58 in the men's 1500m to climb to seventh place on the Wolves' all-time top 10 list.

Janelle Everetts and Mike Schmidt both made their way to fifth place on the women's and men's all-time top 10 lists in the 800m run, respectively. Everetts registered a time of 2:13.15 at the Stanford Invite, while Mike Schmidt registered a time of 1:53.29 in the same meet.

Matt Kaino moved into fifth place on the 400m dash list with a time of 48.30, as he won the event at the Oregon Preview by .48 seconds. That time left him just .3 seconds short of an NCAA provisional qualifying standard.

Freshman Connor Kasler now owns the fifth place mark in the 800m in Western Oregon history in both indoor and outdoor track. He ran a time of 1:53.58 at the Oregon Preview to make his move into the WOU record books. His time was .58 seconds off an NCAA provisional standard.

Amanda Wright grabbed the fifth-best mark in school history in the 5000m with a time of 18:09.12 at the San Francisco State Carnival Meet. This was the fastest time for a Western Oregon runner in the event in over 12 years.

Kaitlyn Reid once again improved upon her season-best time in the 400m hurdles with a mark of 1:04.01 at the Willamette Invite to ascend to fifth place in the WOU record books. Reid also earned herself a spot on the 100m hurdles list with a time of 15.02 in the event at the same meet.

Mandy Keifer matched her career-best time in the 100m hurdles down to the hundredth of a second with a time of 14.94. She still stands at seventh in the school record books.

Amanda Schumaker moved into fifth place in Western Oregon history in the javelin toss with a career-best throw of 140-0 (42.68m).

Carolanne Powers recorded a javelin toss of 138-3 (42.15m) to earn an NCAA provisional qualifying standard and move into sixth place in school history at the Willamette Opener.
