MONMOUTH, Ore.
- Central Washington came into Monmouth and took both games of a doubleheader from Western Oregon University, 2-0 and 5-3, to claim the 2010 Great Northwest Athletic Conference title and earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA West Regional.

The Wolves (32-19, 26-12 GNAC) entered the four-game series trailing the Wildcats (35-13, 30-8) by two games in the conference standings. WOU need a sweep to earn the playoff berth or to win three of four games to become GNAC co-champions. However, even with the losses Western Oregon will lock up second place.

Game 1
Lauren Hadenfeld tossed a complete game one-hitter and Central Washington got two runs in the fifth inning to earn a 2-0 win.

Hadenfeld recorded her GNAC-leading sixth shutout of the season and earned her 20th victory of the season. The only hit she allowed was a double to Amanda Fleer to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning. Hadenfeld finished the game with five strike outs and no walks. She also induced 11 fly outs.

Jessica Wood (7-7) gave the Wolves a strong performance in the circle as well. She went the complete game allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out eight.

Wood only ran into trouble in the fifth inning. With one out, she hit a batter and walked the next batter bringing Jen Schwartz to the plate. Schwartz chopped a ball off the plate halfway between the circle and the plate which Wood fielded and fired down to first base. However, the ball hit Schwartz in the back and skipped towards the Wolves' dugout allowing pinch runner Devin Larson to score and put the Wildcats in front 1-0. Danielle Monson then added an insurance run on a blooper over third base.

Schwartz and Monson had two hits apiece to account for four of the Wildcats' five hits.

Game 2
Samantha Petrich went 2-for-4 and recorded three RBI to lead Central Washington to a 5-3 win in game two.

WOU grabbed the early lead as Bailey Rueck collected two RBI on a single in the first and Stephanie Albrecht added a solo home run in the second to go on top 3-0.

The Wildcats then clawed their way back with two in the third, one in the fourth and two more in the fifth. The go-ahead run came on an RBI-single by Petrich.

Katriina Reime (7-0) earned the win in relief. She went the final six innings allowing just five hits and no runs.

Tyler Sutherland and Andrea Bailey had two hits apiece for WOU who outhit CWU 9-8 in the game.

Next games
Western Oregon and Central Washington will play another doubleheader tomorrow (May 8) at noon to close out their GNAC seasons.
