Soccer hosts NCU on Thursday

MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Western Oregon women's soccer team opens the home portion of the 2010 schedule this week as the Wolves host Northwest Christian in a non-conference match on Thursday, Sept. 9, at 5:00 p.m. Admission to the match is free.

The Wolves enter the contest with a mark of 0-2 on the season after dropping a pair of games during the first week of action. Western Oregon dropped a heartbreaking, 2-1, decision at Sonoma State on Thursday before falling to Cal State Stanislaus to close out the week.

Sophomore forward Marina Austin leads the Western Oregon attack heading into the week with one goal and five shots on the season while goalkeepers Brittney Rigtrup and Kelsie Blachly have each made seven stops in goal for the Wolves defense.

Northwest Christian, a NAIA institution, enters the contest with a mark of 0-2-1 on the year after falling at home to Chapman (Calif.), 4-0, on Monday.

Kori Wilgus leads Northwest Christian with 13 shots while Ali Foster has played every minute in goal for the Beacons, recording 25 saves.

Following the match against the Beacons, Western Oregon will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 12, when the Wolves travel to Hillsboro, Ore., to face Portland State at 12:00 p.m.
