MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon women's soccer team looked for many different ways to squeeze the ball past the first place Seattle Pacific defense, but just could not score; falling 3-0, on Saturday, Oct. 22nd at WOU Soccer Field.
The Wolves (5-7-3, 4-5-2 GNAC) were looking for ways to turn around and gain three points in the standings over two-time defending Great Northwest Athletic Conference champions.
Kellie Zakrezwski scored two of the Falcon's three goals, as both of them came in the first half. Her first goal got the ball past the Wolves' goalie on the left side. The second goal came as Western Oregons' goalie scrambled out of the box, but the ball got mixed up and scrambled around. Zakrezwski got enough power behind the ball to roll it into the goal.
Western Oregon's best chance came in the final 10 minutes of the first half, as they threatened Seattle Pacific's (13-2-0, 10-1-0 GNAC) defense.
LaChante Horton ran down the field in a break away allowing her to get free and fire the ball at the Falcon's goalie but saw the ball fly wide left.
Kymberly Witmer fired off two more shots shortly after, but both were saved.
WOU will head into their final stretch of the 2011 season, as they get ready to leave for their final road trip of the season. The Wolves will head north of the border to see action against Simon Fraser on Oct. 27th. They will then make their way back to Monmouth with a stop in Bellingham, Wash. to face off against Western Washington on Oct. 29th. Kick off against Simon Fraser is 7:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. against Western Washington.
