Soccer closes out season with Senior Day and SMU

This week:

Western Oregon University will welcome Saint Martin's to their home pitch on Sunday, Nov. 6th at 2:00 p.m. This will be the final home match for seven WOU student-athletes and the team's final match of the 2011 season.

The Wolves:
WOU comes into Sunday's match with a record of 5-8-4 overall and 4-6-3 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. The Wolves have scored just four goals in their last five games, including two against Northwest Nazarene on Oct. 15th.

Lindsay Bauman has jumped ahead in the GNAC standings as she is ranked second with 65 shots. Senior goalie, Brittney Rigtrup, ranks third with five shutouts and fifth with 54 saves.

We say goodbye to the seniors:
Sunday's match against Saint Martin's will be Senior Day for seven members of the Wolves' soccer team. The Wolves will say goodbye to Brittney Rigtrup -54 saves-, Katrina Kem–one goal and eight shots-, Monique Thees–one goal which was the game-winner against Saint Martin's-, Lauren Vieira–one goal, one assist, and 13 shots-, and Kristen Sagami–played in 11 games for the Wolves. This will also be the last home contest for Ciara Peterson and Anna Edmonds, both of whom had to sit this season with injuries.

A look at Saint Martin's:
The Saints enter Sunday's match with a record of 4-11-2 overall and 4-9-0 GNAC. The Saints have gone 2-3-0 in their last five matches, with their last win, a 1-0 victory, came on Oct. 30th against Simon Fraser.

Ashley Richardson paces SMU with six points, two assists, and 22 shots. Hanna Massee leads the Saints with two goals.

The last time the Wolves and Saints saw action against one another was on Oct. 8th when Western Oregon won 2-1. Lindsay Bauman was able to seal the victory for the Wolves when she fired the ball in from 15 yards out in the 71st minute. Cassandra Olson scored the first goal of the match, as she got the ball free after a scrum in front of the Saints' goal just before the half.

Western Oregon trails Saint Martin's in the all-time series 5-2-2.

Tickets are available for $6 for adults and $4 for non-WOU students. All Western Oregon students will be allowed in free with current student ID.
