NAMPA, Idaho -
Tarance Glynn had a team-high 16 points and five rebounds but it was not enough as the Western Oregon men's basketball team fell on the road at Northwest Nazarene, 74-57, Tuesday (Feb. 22).
The loss drops the Wolves (13-14, 8-9 GNAC) one game behind the Crusaders (12-12, 9-8 GNAC) into sixth place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
NNU was able to take advantage of its size in the blocks. Center Brian Barkdoll led all scorers with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting. He added six boards to help the Crusaders win the battle of the boards 37-22. NNU was also able to use this rebounding edge to outscore WOU 18-2 in second chance points.
Western Oregon led midway through the first half 21-20 before NNU put together a 13-2 run to take a lead it would never relinquish. The Crusaders led 37-27 at the half.
In the second half, WOU scored 11 of the first 15 points to cut the lead to three points (41-38). However, this would be as close as the Wolves would get. The teams would exchange baskets over the next couple minutes before the Crusaders again made a run halfway through the period. They would extend their lead from four points to 17 with a 16-3 spurt to grab a commanding lead with seven minutes to go.
Blair Wheadon had 13 points, including hitting all six of his shots at the free throw line, and was the only other Wolf in double-figures.
NNU hit 50 percent of its shots from behind the arc (7-of-14) compared to just 14 percent for WOU (2-of-14). Northwest Nazarene also hit 56 percent of its shots from the field and WOU just 41 percent.
The Wolves will continue its final road trip of the season Thursday, Feb. 24, at conference leader Central Washington. Tipoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
